EMD NW3
Clinchfield Railroad EMD NW3 #361 sits at Erwin, Tennessee, on March 30, 1971. The grill on the front of the locomotive still references the paint scheme of the Great Northern Railway which it was originally built for.
The EMD NW3 was produced by Electro Motive Diesel from November of 1939 to March of 1942 with a total of seven being built. The NW3 was a yard switcher with 900 horsepower and a max speed of 83 MPH. It was fitted with an EMD 567A 12 Cylinder engine and weighed a total of 214,000 pounds. All of these 4 axle switchers were sold to the Great Northern Railway.
